Transcript: TransplantsOne way to get a head start on your garden is with transplants. Summer arrives really early here in Texas and we need plants that are hitting the ground running and quickly on their way to producing a good crop.To have success with transplants, start by digging a hole to set them in. you want to make sure you have a good composting mix. In the case things like peppers and flowers and most other transplants, you can just plant them right into the hole. But some things, like these tomatoes, will actually root along the stem. So you can break off the lower leaves, set the transplant down into the hole, bend the stem up slightly, then cover the transplant and the stem allowing the end of the stem to stick up like this. If you want, you can build a little bit of a raised ridge around the edge to hold moisture. Then get you a good transplant solution, it could be a weak fertilizer solution or something like fish emulsion and seaweed, and water it in very well. With a good soaking, those roots will begin to grow and those plants will be off to a good start. With your common sense tip on starting transplants in your garden, I'm Skip Richter. download
