Transcript: Texas BetonyIf you're looking for a Texas tough ground cover that will be an awesome performer in your central Texas garden, you can't beat Texas Betony. This is a native perinnial and it does very well in our gardens because it's from here. It starts blooming in late spring with these beautiful bloom spikes that are a reddish coral color and continue to bloom day after day as the spike extends itself up. It branches a lot from the bottom so you continue to get more and more blooms. If it gets a little bit ragged, you can shear it back and it comes right back again. Once it's established, it doesn't take much water; it's very drought tolerant. It does well in sun; it does well in quite a bit of shade also. As I indicated, it begins blooming in late spring and continues on through the summer and on into fall. And one of the best features is that it's deer resistant. This plant looks great planted all alone, but also does well masked as a ground cover. If you'd like that effect, plant them about 12 to 18 inches apart and they'll fill in well by the end of the season. Texas Betony just can't be beat for Texas tough color in your central Texas garden. download
