Transcript: Farm Fresh ProduceAll across Texas, farmers are providing vegetables, fruits, flowers, Christmas trees and many other farm fresh products that you can go out and get right there fresh from the farm. It makes a great family outing.I encourage you this summer to find the local farms in your area. Call your county Extension office and ask them for some local sources of fresh produce, flowers and other such farm fresh products. Many farms provide you the opportunity to pick your own and some even offer picnic areas where you can gather the family and rest awhile. It’s a great family outing. Many also provide free recipes, great ideas for turning that fresh produce into an outstanding dinner experience. [Carol Ann Sayle, Owner of Boggy Creek Farm in Austin] We just appreciate so much people coming out to get this food, and the relationships we’ve formed with our customers are unbelievable. They like to come out and walk the farm, see what’s growing, so that they understand what’s in season. They know that if you eat locally, that you will have a better chance of getting fresh food, and freshness equals nutrition. So visit a local farm this summer for some fresh produce that hasn’t traveled across the country. In fact, you could say that it’s 2000 miles fresher. With your common sense tip for buying fresh local produce, I’m Skip Richter. download
