Transcript: Herb GardeningHerb gardens are very popular with gardeners. Not only because herbs are beautiful plants in the garden, but also because they offer a nice fragrance, or perhaps a great addition to kitchen cuisine. You know, to grow herbs you don’t necessarily need a traditional herb garden. They do very well in containers. They also do well in ornamental beds. Many herbs make good ground covers. For example, thyme and oregano are excellent in sunny areas as a ground cover. They also work well spilling over the edge of a pot as a trailing vine. Then they’re herbs that make good specimen plants. Shrubs like rosemary are very nice. And also plants like Mexican mint marigold, which in fall, produce beautiful yellow blooms. They’re very attractive to many pollinator insects. Herbs also make nice specimen plants. I like to use the strong lines of lemon grass to provide a difference of texture within a perennial planting bed. So there’s an herb for every occasion, not just limited to the herb garden, but even in containers and other places within our landscape. So take advantage of wonderful fall weather for establishing herbs and get a head start on next year’s season. With your common sense tip on herb gardening, I’m Skip Richter. download
