Transcript: Christmas TreesWith the holiday season upon us, folks are starting to think about getting that Christmas tree for the year. You know, we have a lot of growers here in Texas that provide wonderful trees and a great family experience. To come out a farm, take a hayride, perhaps have a hot cup of chocolate, and enjoy the chance to come out, pick your own tree out, cut it down and take it home is a great family outting idea. With fresh trees like this, you always know you’re getting a fresh tree because you’re picking it out and taking it home yourself. But it you purchase a tree off the lot, you do want to make sure it is fresh. One good way is to take the needles and bend them back and see if they’re still soft and supple. That’s a good test for freshness. When you get the tree home, you always want to cut off the base of the trunk, about an inch and a half off the trunk, and then get it right into water. It will start to pull that water up really quickly, so you want to check it every few days and make sure you always keep water in the container. Once it dries out, the quality declines rapidly. You want the tree to last all the way through the Christmas season. With your common sense pick your own Christmas tree tip, I’m Skip Richter. download
